What is included with the ticket price?
So much good stuff! You get admission into the San Diego Comic Art Gallery, a chance to hobnob amongst rare and awesome comic art, plus unlimited samples of hand-selected San Diego craft beer, authentic Mexican eats, music by the IDW Publishing house band, unlimited plays on Mike’s Hop-Cade, AND the warm fuzzies of effecting positive change in this world due to ticket proceeds benefiting the local charity, Traveling Stories.
Wait… is this an official JoCo Cruise event? I don’t remember this from last year.
The fine folks at the JoCo Cruise hit up their pals at Team Pandy to help create something new and rad for you. So, it’s not organized or run by JoCo Cruise, but it’s sanctioned by them. Think of it as a pre-cruise shore excursion!
Is there a Designated Driver ticket? I wanna go, but I don’t drink booze.
We’re not able to offer special pricing for designated drivers, royalty, astronauts, or anyone else for that matter. Even without imbibing, there is plenty of awesomeness to go around and we’ll have water and non-alcoholic drinks for you.
My friend didn’t get a ticket and now it’s sold out. Any chance you’ll release more tickets?
Sadly no. While we’d love to include everyone, our top priority is the comfort of the guests that bought tickets early. Considering space restrictions and food/drink limits, once we’re sold out – we’re sold out!
I challenge you to a game for more tickets! First I’ll beat you at the game of your choice and then collect my prize of extra tickets!
I have no doubt you have mad skills and would clobber me. However, we’d still be sold out of tickets.
Will there be food?
Heck ya – come hungry! We’re bringing out our favorite hometown heroes of Mexican cooking to serve up authentic street tacos with handmade tortillas and fresh salsas.
Will there be vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free options?
Yup! We’ve even got an amazing gluten-reduced brewery on board. No gluten, no problem!
Speaking of breweries, where’s the beer list?
A great question after our own heart! We’ve got some terrific commitments, but the final list of San Diego local, independent craft beer/breweries is still in process. We are still many moons away and, having worked in the beer industry, know from experience that brewing schedules often shift. We’ll keep you updated and are eager to boast the beer list proudly when it’s ready.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
My buddy isn’t going on the 2018 JoCo Cruise, but wants to come to this event. Is that cool? Can he/she just buy a ticket?
This is an exclusive event for the Sea Monkeys! It’s like the old Himalayan saying, “No cruise, no booze.” That said, if you’re a past year Sea Monkey looking to rekindle friendships, come on down! Heck, if you’re bringing a friend to introduce them to your Sea Monkey alter ego and initiate him/her into the fold, that works for us, too!
Are children allowed?
No, you must be 21yrs or older to attend. No kids, quadrupeds, or non-mammals. Literal monkeys are not allowed, though service animals are welcomed. Imaginary friends are allowed, provided they have an unexpired photo ID.
ITEMS TO BRING, OR NOT BRING – THAT IS THE QUESTION.
Do I need to bring an unexpired photo ID?
YES!! Duh. Sheesh. It’s state law, and the responsibility falls on us to ensure this once we acquire the license to serve alcohol. Say it with us now: “Unexpired. Photo. I-D.”
Should I bring cash or a credit card?
The organizers have designed this to be an all inclusive event. All the food, drink and games are paid for with your admission – you won’t even find a tip jar. With that out of the way, we should mention that The San Diego Comic Art Gallery store will be open and has some insanely amazing and rare books and games that could be perfect cruise ship material… You’re also welcome to make donations to Traveling Stories at their table if you are compelled to.
Since I’m in San Diego, I bought some rare bottle releases from one of the 140+ local breweries. Is it cool if I bring this in and do a little “bottle share” action?
No… not cool. Game over man, game over. It would be illegal and we’d be forced to confiscate it. With great alcohol one day licensing, comes great responsibility. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of outstanding craft beers to enjoy inside.
Come on, you’ve been to similar events before, right? You know the drill. If you has to ask, it’s probably not kosher. If you still want to ask to be on the safe side, you can contact us and we’ll try to get back to you ASAP!
WEATHER / ACCESSIBILITY
What if it rains?
You’re about to take a 7-day boat ride and you’re afraid of a little water? This event is rain or shine, but it’s pretty much indoors or under an outdoor covering. We recommend checking the weather and dressing accordingly.
Is the event accessible for wheelchairs?
The entire event is taking place on the ground floor of IDW’s headquarters with no stairways to contend with. There are two areas that are a step down in the outdoor gardens – which are not paved. Please contact us if this is something you require accommodations for, so we can try and help.
HOTELS & ACCOMMODATIONS
How far away is the venue from the JoCo Cruise Special Rate Hotels in the area?
Super close! Both the Courtyard Marriott and Homewood Suites are less than a mile away. It’s a flat and scenic walk if you’d like to burn some calories and feel better about your evening of beer and tacos. Otherwise, the Wyndham Bayside is a brief (~4 mi.) car/cab/rideshare jaunt away.

What if I lose my printed ticket?
No problem. If you show up sans ticket, we’ll check your unexpired photo ID against our master Will Call list. It might take a minute longer than flashing that beautifully printed ticket, but we’ll get you inside. Oh, and you might have to do a tap dancing routine for 10 seconds.
I’ve changed my mind. What’s the refund policy?
Are you sure you want to deny yourself an evening of pure bliss and enjoyment, while simultaneously letting down the sweet children supported by our charity partner, Traveling Stories? So who the hell is “Team Pandy?”
Pandy is short for Palmer-Andy. Mike Palmer and Andy Tenn are an event planning and marketing duo that met during a shared tenure at famed craft brewery, Stone Brewing. In his previous role as Stone’s Creative Director, Mike had the pleasure of working with Paul and Storm several times while managing the marketing and event details for the über geeky beer festival, HOP-CON.
The idea of a unique JoCo kick-off event came up this year over a few shared beers, so Mike enlisted the help of his friend, Andy, who had previously worked with him on various Stone events, both small and giganto. Once “Team Pandy” was rejoined with all the sacred forces of Pandy Crystals, they were ready to fulfill the prophecy foretold by the Brotherhood of the JoCo. After much toiling… so much toiling, indeed… they arrived at the Sea Monkey Send-Off festival you’re reading about here.
